Dr Gerhard Pölzl attended the University of Graz, Austria, where he trained in internal medicine and received a fellowship in Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine. He held a research fellowship in the Division of Cardiology at the New England Medical Center Hospitals, Tufts University, Boston, USA. He gained a Habilitation in Internal Medicine at the Innsbruck Medical University, Austria, and is now Director of the Heart Failure Clinic, Innsbruck Medical University, Austria.
Dr Pölzl has clinical and experimental research in molecular cardiology; estrogen receptors; endothelial function and peripheral vasculature in chronic heart failure; renal and liver function; chronic heart failure; biomarkers in chronic heart failure; hemodynamics and neurohumoral activation in acute heart failure; medical therapy in end-stage heart failure; healthcare in chronic heart failure; home-based patient management; and heart transplant and transplant vasculopathy.
Dr Pölzl has published a variety of articles, reviews and abstracts in various journals and has presented numerous lectures and posters at national and international meetings.
